Understanding Your Iris
Every iris is unique, which means the level of detail we capture can naturally vary from person to person. Some irises have softer, more blended patterns, while others show sharper, more defined textures. Both create completely individual results.
To capture the fine detail within your iris, we use carefully controlled studio lighting directed toward the eye for a very short period of time. Because of this, the colours in your finished image may sometimes appear slightly different from how your eyes look in everyday natural light.
Our aim is always to capture the true character, colour and detail of your iris as clearly and comfortably as possible, and we’ll guide you through the whole process during your session.

Do all iris photos look the same?
Not at all. Every iris is completely unique. Some people naturally have softer, more blended patterns, while others have sharper, more defined textures. The colour, pattern and level of detail will vary from person to person, making every finished image completely individual.
Why does my iris look different on camera than in real life?
The controlled studio lighting we use allows us to reveal colours, textures and fine details within your iris that may not be as noticeable in everyday natural light. This means your iris may sometimes appear slightly different from how you normally see it.
How will we receive our iris images?
Your finished high-resolution digital images are delivered through a private online gallery. From there, you can view, download and share your images with family and friends.
Is the lighting uncomfortable?
The lighting we use is bright and directed towards the eye for a very short period while we capture the photograph. It may feel bright for a moment, but we keep the process quick and will guide you throughout the session to make sure you’re comfortable.
Can two people have their irises photographed together?
Absolutely. We can photograph one iris from each person and create a paired image or artwork, making this a popular choice for couples, friends and family members.
What is included in my Iris Photography session?
Your session includes the photography of your iris and your chosen finished image supplied as a high-quality digital file, professionally edited and presented on a clean black background as standard.
If you’d like to take your image further, you can also choose from our range of signature artistic designs, available as an optional extra from £14.99.
Can I order wall art of my iris?
Yes. We offer a selection of wall art, including acrylic and framed options, allowing you to turn your finished iris image into a statement piece for your home. You can view the available options during your visit to the studio or order them diretly through your gallery.
Do you use AI to create the iris images?
No. Your standard iris image is created from the real photograph we take of your eye. We carefully edit and refine the image to bring out the natural colour, detail and texture of your iris, but we do not use AI to generate or replace the iris itself.
For some of our optional artistic designs, AI may occasionally be used as part of the creative process to produce certain effects or finishes. Your actual iris remains based on your original photograph.
How many people can we bring?
We can photograph individuals, couples and families, including larger family groups. If you’re planning to bring a larger group, please get in touch before booking so we can make sure we allow enough time for everyone.

How long are gift vouchers valid for?
Our Iris Photography gift vouchers are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase.
How long does it take to receive our images?
Your finished digital images are normally delivered within around three working days. This gives us time to carefully process and edit each iris image before sending your finished photographs.
Can you photograph babies and young children?
We don’t photograph children under two years old. The photography requires the child to remain still for a few moments while we capture the iris, so for younger children aged two and above, we leave it to the parent’s judgement as to whether they feel their child will be comfortable and able to sit still for the photograph.
Can you photograph very dark brown eyes?
Absolutely. Dark brown eyes can contain incredible detail, colour and texture that isn’t always visible in everyday light. Our controlled studio lighting allows us to reveal much more of the natural pattern within the iris, so even very dark eyes can produce striking and completely unique results.
Can I wear contact lenses for my Iris Photography session?
For the clearest and most accurate result, we recommend removing contact lenses before your iris is photographed. Contact lenses can occasionally create reflections or slight distortion across the iris, so removing them helps us capture the natural detail and colour of your eye as clearly as possible.
If you normally wear contact lenses, it’s a good idea to bring your glasses or contact lens case with you.
